I’m not shooting artsy photographs, playing in clay or drawing pen and ink trees these days, but I have an inventory of the most comprehensive graphic arts project I have ever mastered, the history book, Battle Ground…In and Around. The inventory is the last of the third and final printing.
After interviewing many members of pioneer families and borrowing their treasured photographs, I composed prose and captions on a primitive computerized typesetter and determined the size of the photos. I then literally "pasted-up" the materials onto graph paper for the book's 400 pages and arranged the pages into 16-page signatures, ready for commercial printing. I also drew the cover design. After printing, the boxes of pages were sent to a bindery in Portland, bound between leatherette hard covers and shipped back to my Battle Ground home.
Battle Ground . . . In and Around is available through the website BattleGroundHistoryBook.com or be purchased locally at Battle Ground Auto License Agency.
